With the global push towards the increased use of renewable energy as a sustainable alternative, production of wind energy is growing exponentially. According to WindEurope, the total installed wind power capacity will be over 320 GW by 2030, which is more than double of the rated power in 2020. How can the industry cope with the increased demand of energy production while optimizing profitability with all the new regulations? Wind operation automation may be the answer.
Nowadays, data has become the most important thing in the world. We all care about having data and the more we can have, the better. Mastering IoT, AI or any other form of technological innovation gives us privileged knowledge. In the renewable energy sector this trend has followed exactly the same path. However, there is some controversy regarding the essence of data, and it has to do with the fact that data itself is just nothing—it’s completely meaningless. Having to handle huge amounts of data usually leads to too little quality information.
AUTONOMOUS WIND TURBINE OPERATIONS TO BOOST RENEWABLE ENERGY OUTPUT
Last January, the technical requirements to qualify as an energy dispatching center and communicate in real time with the Spanish grid operator Red Eléctrica de España (REE) changed considerably. This variation is due to the growing need to change the electrical system, allowing the massive adaptation of renewable energies to leave behind a centralized and linear model and give way to a much more flexible, intelligent and dispersed generation system.
Many wind farms commissioned in the early 2000s are having trouble regulating the power they generate. In a scenario where renewable energy is rapidly expanding, the Spanish grid operator is increasing curtailment commands and operational restrictions to provide a more stable energy system and optimize the relationship between demand and supply.
Once again, Green Eagle Solutions strengthens its presence in the French wind market, providing its 24/7 remote operations center service to 6 wind farms in the country. Automation prevails over traditional operations methods.
